The present research examined Ongagawa style pottery used during the early Yayoi period of the Japanese archipelago. We employed elliptic Fourier analysis on the two-dimensional data and spherical harmonics on the three-dimensional data to investigate the transmission process. The results support the traditional claim that the pottery was transmitted via two different routes.
